Last year when we paired up to make a Funky Friends Factory stuffed animal. I was so excited. I ended up making a shark, which my kids loved and wanted a ton of them. So, when this year it was on the calendar that we would get to pair up with Funky Friends again, I knew exactly which "stuffy" I was going to ask to make.
If you haven't guessed yet, this months ambassador challenge with Island Batik is to make an adorable stuffed animal from Funky Friends!
The axolotl is an adorable animal that the kiddos seem to be in love with these days. My two kids were so excited to go see them when we went to visit the San Diego Zoo awhile back. The amount of excitement was just so sweet. I love that they are into a unique and different creature. I was very excited to be able to sew this stuffy for them.
The pattern is super easy to download, print, cut and assemble. I used the photo tutorial a lot, as I am a visual person and I found this very helpful.
I chose to make a blue and a pink axolotl and I pulled a light and a dark of each to make the stuffies.

I picked a dark and light batik for each axolotl and the dark was for the fins and the lights for the bodies. I did just end up using felt for the eyes, and just did a quick straight stitch around them. You can use buttons, or embroider the eyes as well, but I felt this was an easy way for me to sew them on.

While assembling the pattern I used the wonderful Hobbs Simply Stuffing and I was really shocked at how soft this polyester filling is. I always hate stuffing animals because the poly-fil is always so scratchy or just feels like plastic. Not Hobbs, they have a soft smooth stuffing and this made stuffing the axolotl a lot easier.

The axolotl hands and feet are so perfect. I love how they came together.

Once I got the entire axolotl sewn together I finished it off by hand sewing the last two inches together.

I then got a few photos of these adorable Funky Friends and added some "water" for the background (because Island Batik fabric makes for the perfect water).

Thank you again to funky friends factory for sharing these adorable stuffy patterns with us!
